Our focus
Four areas, one shared purpose
New Haven Aotearoa is developing community-led work across four connected areas. Together, they support better health knowledge, fairer access, stronger wellbeing and more responsive services.
These services are in development and are not open for referrals yet. Community priorities, evidence, available resources and suitable partnerships will guide what begins first.
01
Health Promotion, Information and Rights
We are developing culturally appropriate health promotion that makes reliable information easier to understand and access. Planned work includes prevention, community education, awareness of health and disability rights, workshops and accessible resources that help people make informed choices.
02
Health and Disability Access and Navigation
We are developing practical navigation support to help people understand eligibility, referrals and service pathways, and connect with suitable health and disability services. Planned work includes verified service information, navigation resources and supported connections to appropriate providers.
03
Community Wellbeing and Connection
We are developing culturally responsive, community-led programmes that strengthen wellbeing, reduce isolation and build connection and belonging. Planned work includes wellbeing education, group activities, peer connection and non-clinical support, with clear pathways to appropriate specialist services when needed.
04
Community Advocacy and Service Improvement
We are developing community-led advocacy that brings together community experience and evidence, identifies recurring barriers, and works with providers and decision-makers on practical improvements. This area focuses on services and systems, rather than formal complaints or individual case representation.
how nha works
Four foundations beneath our work
These are not separate services. They describe how NHA will plan, develop and improve its work.

Community Participation and Co-design
Communities should help identify priorities, shape activities and review results.

Research, Evaluation and Community Evidence
Evidence and lived experience should guide decisions and lead to practical improvements.

Community Capability and Workforce Development
We aim to develop volunteers, community researchers, navigators and emerging leaders.

Partnerships and Collaboration
NHA should work with existing services, researchers and communities rather than duplicate their work.
programme development
Start Carefully, Learn and Improve
We want each programme to respond to a demonstrated need and have a clear, safe purpose.
Listen
Start with community experience and what existing evidence already tells us.
Map
Identify service pathways, existing strengths and the gaps that still need attention.
Co-design
Develop a practical response with relevant communities and partners.
Pilot and Learn
Start small, measure what changes and improve before considering expansion.
our current role
Community-based and Complementary
These areas are still being developed and are not open for referrals. NHA’s planned role is community-based and non-clinical. Our work will complement existing health, disability and advocacy services rather than replace them.
